Rochester, NY

Shopify design and development for Rochester brands.

Looking for a Shopify agency in Rochester? Start with what actually needs doing: build the store, redesign the one you've outgrown, or market it once it's live with ads, email, search and testing. For brands doing six to eight figures a year.

Selling from Rochester

An optics town, with New York's biggest wine region to the south.

Rochester's industry is precise, and the Finger Lakes below it is the state's wine country. Sources beside each.

Migration · then the marketing

A store that finally matched the product behind it.

Modern Prairie had proven products, a real community and a store stuck on WooCommerce, with no welcome email, no abandoned-cart email and no ads. Rochester brands that are more precise about the product than about the marketing will recognize the gap.

We fixed the platform first — Shopify, a custom theme, a simpler checkout — then built the marketing it had never had, written for how its customer actually shops.

Get the store built — or get the one you have selling better.

A build is one project: the design and theme, your catalog, the move off whatever you’re on now, and a launch somebody watches. From $10,000 one-time, and you own every bit of it.

Already on Shopify? Shopify Growth keeps the store improving month to month, from $2,250/mo. Ads, email, search and testing go on top when they’ll pay for themselves.

Questions, Rochester edition.

Are you actually in Rochester?

We're a remote agency, so there's no office to visit anywhere — ours or anyone else's. Our people are spread across the US and we run on video calls, which is how we'd work with you either way. Rochester keeps our hours, too — same Eastern Time working day, start to finish.

Our product is genuinely technical. How much detail belongs on the page?

More than most agencies will tell you, and Rochester is where that lands hardest. If your customer is choosing on specification, hiding the specification to keep the page pretty loses the sale — the trick is structuring it so a skimmer and a researcher both get what they came for.

We sell to other businesses as much as consumers. Same store?

It can be, with B2B configured properly — net terms, gated pricing and purchase orders all work on Shopify. The mistake is running two half-built experiences on one theme because nobody decided which customer the homepage is actually for.

We make wine or cider in the Finger Lakes. What can the store actually do?

Where you're allowed to ship is a question for your own compliance advice, not us. The store side is ours: a club with its own pricing and release schedule, allocations that don't oversell a small vintage, and tasting-room pickup — so a visitor who liked the flight in July can keep buying in November.

We come from the optics world and we're selling to consumers now. What changes?

The buyer stops reading the spec sheet first. An engineer wants the numbers; a consumer wants to know what the thing does for them, then the numbers underneath. Keep every specification, just move it below a plain-English answer. In a region with about 20,000 people working in optics and imaging, the spec sheet is the easy part to write — the plain answer is the part that sells.

Where we work

Rochester and the Finger Lakes below it.

Rochester has a manufacturing and optics history that left behind a lot of technical people, and the brands here are often more precise about their product than they are about their marketing.

We’re a remote agency with a home base in Norristown, Pennsylvania — the team is spread across the country, with a good chunk of it on the west coast. Everything runs on video calls, so you get the same people and the same hours whether you’re downtown or an hour out of it.
