Birmingham, AL

Shopify design and development for Birmingham brands.

Looking for a Shopify agency in Birmingham? Start with what actually needs doing: build the store, redesign the one you've outgrown, or market it once it's live with ads, email, search and testing. For brands doing six to eight figures a year.

Selling from Birmingham

What Birmingham makes, and who it works for.

Three things about the Birmingham economy that a store owner here can actually use, each with where it comes from.

  • Food and drink is growing

The Birmingham Business Alliance names food and beverage as one of the region's growth industries, from local brands scaling up to national brands with a presence here.

First ads · from a standing start

Turning loyal customers into the first paid audience.

Pumpin Pal is a maternity brand that grew the way a lot of Birmingham businesses do — on word of mouth and customers who came back — with no paid campaigns running at all. Good with people, untested at ads.

We built the first campaigns from their real customer list rather than a guess, and put the tracking in before real budget went in, so the first dollar was a decision rather than a bet.

Get the store built — or get the one you have selling better.

A build is one project: the design and theme, your catalog, the move off whatever you’re on now, and a launch somebody watches. From $10,000 one-time, and you own every bit of it.

Already on Shopify? Shopify Growth keeps the store improving month to month, from $2,250/mo. Ads, email, search and testing go on top when they’ll pay for themselves.

Questions, Birmingham edition.

Are you actually in Birmingham?

Not in person. We're a remote team whose home base is Norristown, Pennsylvania, so there's no Birmingham office — but a Central Time afternoon still overlaps most of our working day, and we'd run everything on video calls whether you were down the road or not.

We're great with customers face to face. Does that transfer online?

It can, and Birmingham brands under-use it. The thing that makes a shop pleasant — someone answering the actual question — is exactly what a good product page and a real reply-to address do. It is not a technology problem, it is a decision to keep sounding like yourselves.

We're small and cautious about spending. Where should the first dollar go?

The store and the email list, in that order, and we will say so even though it is the smaller engagement. Ads amplify whatever the store already does; if the store converts badly, paid traffic just costs more per disappointment.

We make a food or drink product in Birmingham. Can the store sell it past Alabama?

Yes, and it's the step most regional food makers put off longest. Food and beverage is one of the growth industries the region's own economic developers are betting on, and the jump from a local shelf to a national one runs through the store: rates that price in weight and distance, ingredient answers on the product page, and a subscribe option for the thing people buy every month.

A lot of our customers work in healthcare. Does that change how we sell?

It changes when they shop. In a city whose biggest employer is a medical university, plenty of your buyers keep hospital hours, so an ad schedule and email send times built around nine-to-five will miss them. Check when your own orders actually come in before you accept the defaults — it's a ten-minute look that usually moves the budget.

Where we work

Birmingham and the towns over the mountain.

Birmingham was built on iron and is now mostly built on medicine, and the brands coming out of it tend to be small, careful and unusually good at hospitality — which translates well to customer service and badly to paid ads.

We’re a remote agency with a home base in Norristown, Pennsylvania — the team is spread across the country, with a good chunk of it on the west coast. Everything runs on video calls, so you get the same people and the same hours whether you’re downtown or an hour out of it.
