Store, ads and email · one system
A founder's concept, turned into a store and the programs around it.
A Brighter Year began as a founder's idea: bite-sized coloring moments for busy adults. A Richmond founder who came up through advertising will recognize the hard part — building awareness against much bigger names without losing the voice that made the idea work.
We built the Shopify store, ran Meta and Google aimed at the moment someone wants to decompress, and used free downloads to grow a list the paid products could sell to.

An ad school, a river terminal, and a metro of seventeen places.
Richmond trains a lot of the people who make advertising, and its freight comes up the James. Each point with its source.
The ad school
VCU's Brandcenter, a graduate advertising school, opened in 1996 as the VCU Adcenter.

Containers up the James
Richmond Marine Terminal is on the James River with direct access to I-95, and it's linked to the Port of Virginia's harbor by a container-on-barge service three times a week.

Seventeen counties and cities
The Census Bureau's Richmond metro is made up of seventeen counties and independent cities, Petersburg, Hopewell and Colonial Heights among them.

Get the store built — or get the one you have selling better.
A build is one project: the design and theme, your catalog, the move off whatever you’re on now, and a launch somebody watches. From $10,000 one-time, and you own every bit of it.
Already on Shopify? Shopify Growth keeps the store improving month to month, from $2,250/mo. Ads, email, search and testing go on top when they’ll pay for themselves.
Questions, Richmond edition.
Are you actually in Richmond?
We're a remote agency, so there's no office to visit anywhere — ours or anyone else's. Our people are spread across the US and we run on video calls, which is how we'd work with you either way. What we can show you is the work, and you can judge it on its own.
We came out of the ad industry. Will we be difficult clients?
Usually the opposite. People who have sat on the agency side ask better questions and waste less time — the only friction is when the brief becomes a critique of the craft rather than a decision about the business.
We have a shop and a website. Which should get the attention?
Whichever is currently worse, and be honest about it. Plenty of Richmond brands have a lovely shop and a site that looks like an afterthought — if the shop is what people love, the site's job is to sound like the shop rather than like a catalog.
We've got a strong creative idea. Will a Shopify theme flatten it?
Only if you let the template decide. Richmond has had a graduate ad school since 1996, and brands that come out of that world usually have a campaign idea worth more than any stock layout — so we build the theme around the idea: the homepage, the product story and the email all carrying it, rather than dropping your headline into somebody else's grid.
Our stock comes up the James by barge. What should the store promise?
Only what the schedule lets you keep. A container that moves from the harbor to Richmond on a three-times-a-week barge can slip, so give restocks a window rather than a date, turn on back-in-stock emails, and word pre-orders honestly — a shopper forgives a wait they were told about.
Where we work
Richmond and the counties wrapped around it.
Richmond has an unusually dense small-brand scene for its size — a lot of makers, a lot of shopfronts, and an advertising industry that trained half of them.
We’re a remote agency with a home base in Norristown, Pennsylvania — the team is spread across the country, with a good chunk of it on the west coast. Everything runs on video calls, so you get the same people and the same hours whether you’re downtown or an hour out of it.
