Baltimore, MD

Shopify design and development for Baltimore brands.

Looking for a Shopify agency in Baltimore? Start with what actually needs doing: build the store, redesign the one you've outgrown, or market it once it's live with ads, email, search and testing. For brands doing six to eight figures a year.

Word of mouth · first ads

A first paid program for a brand its customers already found.

Pumpin Pal grew on search, word of mouth and loyal customers before it ran a single campaign. Baltimore's small makers often have the same order of things: real customers first, a real marketing plan later.

We built the campaigns from zero, off audiences drawn from the real customer list, and put the tracking in before real budget went in — so being small was never a reason to guess.

And a build, start to finish

A Brighter Year

A founder's coloring concept turned into a custom Shopify store, then the free pages, ads and email that fill it. If you built a following in Baltimore before you built a store, this is the build.

Selling from Baltimore

Crab country, halfway down the Washington corridor.

Baltimore sits on the bay that feeds half the country's crab trade, and on the census map it shares a region with Washington. The detail, with sources.

  • Half the blue crab harvest

Maryland is a national leader in supplying blue crabs and soft clams, and the Chesapeake Bay provides half of the total U.S. blue crab harvest.

  • Provenance has its own program

The state Department of Agriculture's True Blue program certifies restaurants that get at least 75% of their crabmeat from Maryland blue crabs.

  • The season has dates

Crabbing in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries runs from April 1 to December 15.

  • One region with Washington

The Census Bureau puts Baltimore and Washington in a single combined statistical area, Washington-Baltimore-Arlington, which also reaches into Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Start here

Get the store built — or get the one you have selling better.

A build is one project: the design and theme, your catalog, the move off whatever you’re on now, and a launch somebody watches. From $10,000 one-time, and you own every bit of it.

Already on Shopify? Shopify Growth keeps the store improving month to month, from $2,250/mo. Ads, email, search and testing go on top when they’ll pay for themselves.

Questions, Baltimore edition.

Are you actually in Baltimore?

We're a remote agency, so there's no office to visit anywhere — ours or anyone else's. Our people are spread across the US and we run on video calls, which is how we'd work with you either way. Our home base is outside Philadelphia, about ninety minutes up I-95, so being in the room for a kickoff is a drive rather than a trip.

We built a following before we built a store. Where do we start?

With whatever the following already proved, and it's a good problem to have. Customers who found you first are the proof — so the first money goes on the product pages and an email list that keeps them, and the ad account waits until there's a store worth sending strangers to.

We're small. Are we too early for an agency?

Possibly, and we'd tell you. Plenty of brands are at the point where a better site would pay for itself and a full growth program would not. If that's you, the honest answer is to do the build and stop there until the volume justifies more.

We sell a Maryland crab product. How much should the store say about where it's from?

Put it up front. Maryland runs a whole certification, True Blue, around restaurants using Maryland crab, which tells you how much buyers here care where the crab came from. On a product page that means the origin in the title, the photos and the first line — not buried on an About page nobody clicks.

Our year runs on crab season. What does the store do from December to April?

Sell the things that aren't the catch. The Bay season runs April 1 to December 15, so the quiet stretch is when gift cards, seasonings, merch and pre-orders for opening week earn their spot — and when the email list gets built, because an April launch to a list you grew in February beats an April launch to nobody.

Should our ads reach Washington as well as Baltimore?

Usually, yes. The Census Bureau already treats Baltimore and Washington as one combined area, which is the Bureau's way of saying the two economies are tied together. Set targeting around the corridor rather than the city line, then let the results tell you which side of it is buying.

Where we work

Baltimore city and Baltimore county both.

Baltimore is a city of very distinct neighborhoods and a lot of small makers, which tends to mean a real customer base before a real website.

We’re a remote agency with a home base in Norristown, Pennsylvania — the team is spread across the country, with a good chunk of it on the west coast. Everything runs on video calls, so you get the same people and the same hours whether you’re downtown or an hour out of it.
